We're sure that Billboard Charts

mean something to every

music fan, no matter the genre,

but what about R&R?

What is it and who owns it?

Well R&R, otherwise known as

"Radio and Records,"offers a broad line of research, providing the radio- and record-industry executives with access to critical information, including the most comprehensive music-airplay data in the industry.

Who owns R&R?  Well, now Billboard does and this is big news in the industry, where mergers and acquisitions are happening more and more frequently.  Although the two have been competitors for over 30 years, Billboard will officially acquire Radio & Records on August 1st.

Country Music All Stars

Just in time for the All Star Game,

  country music has two

new singles to get you into the

spirit of the game.   The already

very popular song "Swing," by Trace

Adkins,  is getting airplay just about

  everywhere, while Trent Tomlinson

has a single on his current cd titled

"Hey Batter Batter."  A  little confusing

at first, since the opening lyrics to

  Adkins song "Swing" are

  "swing batter batter."

The two singles are actually very

  different.   Tomlinson's "Hey Batter

  Batter," was just featured on

ESPN's coverage of the All Star Game.

At the request of ESPN, Tomlinson

  and co-writer Ashe Underwood

  reworked the lyrics to the

"Hey Batter Batter" single for  the

annual Home Run Derby, as part of

  the Major League Baseball

  All Star Game festivities at

  Pittsburgh's PNC Park.   The original

version can be heard on Tomlinson's

debut cd, "Country Is My Rock."

Sony/BMG Merger

Annulled By the EU (European Union)

New Country Star reported last month, that Japan's Sony Music and

Germany's BMG Bertelsmann merged to create a business with

operating sales in the billions of dollars per year.

But European Union Court has now stated, "The commission did not

demonstrate to the requisite legal standard either the non-existence

of a collective dominant position before the concentration or the

absence of a risk that such a position would be created as a result of the

  concentration."

What does it all mean in laymans' terms?   Basically, Sony BMG will have

to re-approach the EU commission for clearance to approve the merger.

New Country Star will be bringing more details as they become

  available.
